README for hpa's SuperRescue version 1.3.1 15 April 2001 "The most overfeatured rescue disk ever created" Requirements: i386 PC system 24 MB RAM Bootable CD-ROM (IDE or SymBIOS 53c8xx SCSI recommended) SuperRescue is a single very large bootable system-on-a-disk. It's based on the observation that the vast majority of systems allow you to do so much more than the minimal system. Therefore, it isn't for everything, but for most desktop systems, it provides a much nicer rescue environment than your average rescue floppy. NOTE: Version numbers differing only in a final letter (e.g. 1.2.1a versus 1.2.1) matter only if you intend to make your own modified versions of SuperRescue using the included build scripts; such version increments do not matter if you use the disk as-is. SuperRescue 1.3.0 is based on RedHat 6.2, with updates available as of 2001-04-14. The source code for the binaries on the system are available from Red Hat Software or your favourite RedHat mirrors: http://www.redhat.com/download/mirror.html Additional RPMS are obtained from ftp.redhat.de, or archived at: http://www.kernel.org/pub/dist/superrescue/RPMS/ ... with source at ... http://www.kernel.org/pub/dist/superrescue/SRPMS/ The kernel is compiled separately; the kernels are archived at: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/ [GPL notice: this complies with section 3(c) of the GPL.] For network cards, filesystems or disk controllers other than the ones I normally use, you probably will find it necessary to explicitly load modules; however, a good selection of compiled modules are included on the disk. This version of SuperRescue doesn't include support for PCMCIA. X is by default configured to be 1024x768x16 bit using the SVGA server. Use "Xconfigurator" to set any other configuration. This disk includes freeware cryptographic software pursuant to 15 CFR 740.13(e)(2), and may under U.S. law not be knowingly exported to Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Libya, North Korea, Sudan or Syria. Enjoy! -hpa
